Dirty Coils?

Here's another photo from our residential estimator, Mike!  In this picture, you can see that the coils inside this homeowner's A/C system are impacted and littered with possible fungal growth and dust. 

When you turn your A/C on, your system pushes the warm air over these coils.  The coils cool down the air, then the air continues down the line to exit out the vents in your home.  If your coils are this grimy, a couple things are possible:

1) The system has to work twice as hard to get air through.  All that dirt and debris means that your system is working overtime to push the air to the other side of the coils.

2) Possible odor issues and potentially hazardous microbes and fungal growth might be entering the air in your home.   

If you can smell a "musty" or "mildewy" odor whenever you turn on your air conditioning, it's possible that you need to have your coils cleaned.  Call Power Vac America to speak with Mike and to get an estimate for cleaning your system! 

Get It Clean!

 Mike, our residential crew leader, took these photos at a residential jobsite last week.  Check out this "before" supply plenum:

Yuck!  All the white crusty stuff surrounding the damper is most likely composed of a combination of fungal growth, dust, and other harmful microbials.  If this homeowner has pets, there's probably some pet dander in there too.  Every time the homeowner turned on the a/c, he was breathing all that harmful stuff!

Mike cleaned the dirt and debris out of the supply plenum, then finished with an anti-fungal, anti-microbial coating to prevent any future growth.  Here's the "after" picture:

Much better!  This homeowner will be breathing easier for years to come.

We've Got Our Ducts in a Row!

With the dust storm that blew through last week and the heat that followed in its wake, the A/C systems of Houston are working overtime to keep things cool! But did that dust storm leave your A/C system full of extra dirt?  In fact, excess dust is one of the big reasons that we get called in.

That picture is from the apartment complex that one of our commercial crews has been cleaning.  All the dust and dirt in that picture was blowing into their home!  Every time their A/C kicked on, the dust would blow into the air and settle on their kitchen counter, the top of the refrigerator, the top of their food, in their drinks...gross!  Don't eat it, clean it!
